Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a pen-shaped device to make tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. Your skin responds by rebuilding, which may improve the look of acne scars, fine lines and texture across a series. The FDA has cleared certain microneedling devices for specific uses in adults 22 and older.

The FDA has not cleared any microneedling device for hair loss, or for use together with another product such as a serum, exosomes or platelet-rich plasma.

Microneedling is most often chosen for the look of acne scars, fine lines, rough texture and enlarged-looking pores on the face. We also treat the neck, décolleté and body areas. Our menu offers seven optional add-ons, from Rejuran salmon DNA formulas and exosomes with copper peptide to PDRN, a Sensi Peel or dermaplaning. Most are $75 each, and Rejuran Healing Essence is $260. Your provider suggests one only when it fits your goals, and explains what is and isn't known about it.

How much does microneedling cost in Portland?
Microneedling at Cosmetiq Medicine is $250 per treatment area, where one area is about the size of two hands. A second area the same day is $125, a package of three sessions is $700 with add-ons not included, and add-ons are $75 each, or $260 for Rejuran Healing Essence.

What happens at a microneedling appointment?
Plan on about an hour. We check your skin and history, apply a topical numbing cream, cleanse, then treat each area with a fresh single-use needle cartridge. You leave flushed and pink, with written aftercare. Recovery varies; your provider reviews what to expect for your skin before you book the next session.

Who should wait, and what side effects are normal?
Microneedling isn't right for everyone. Tell us first if you have a bleeding or clotting disorder, take blood thinners, have eczema, diabetes or a weakened immune system, or get cold sores. Short-lived redness, tightness and peeling are common. All treatments carry risks; we review them at your consultation.

Redness usually settles within a few days, and many people notice smoother-feeling skin soon after. Change from collagen remodeling builds gradually over the following weeks, and a series tends to show more than a single visit. Improvement may be temporary, so occasional maintenance sessions help keep it.

FDA-cleared microneedling devices are cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars and facial wrinkles in people 22 and older, and it's widely used for texture and pores. It isn't suitable for everyone, so we review your skin, history and medicines at your consultation first.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Most plans start with a series of about three sessions spaced several weeks apart, because collagen builds gradually between visits. Deeper acne scarring often takes more. Your provider sets the number and spacing for your skin, and our package of three sessions makes a series easier to plan.
Does microneedling hurt?
A topical numbing cream is applied before we start, and most patients find the treatment tolerable once it takes effect. You may feel pressure and a light scratching sensation, more over bony areas like the forehead. Tell us about any allergy to numbing medicines so we can plan around it.
What is the downtime after microneedling?
Recovery varies. Skin usually looks pink and flushed, like a mild sunburn, and can feel tight or peel lightly for a few days. Many people return to normal plans quickly, but skin is more sensitive to sun and active products for a while. Your provider reviews what to expect for your skin.
Is it worth adding PRP or exosomes to microneedling?
Some people choose an add-on, and our menu offers Rejuran, exosomes with copper peptide, PDRN and more. Know that the FDA has not cleared any microneedling device for use with another product, so these combinations haven't been reviewed by the FDA. We explain what's known before you decide.
Does microneedling age you faster?
We're not aware of any FDA guidance saying it does. The risks worth knowing are irritation, infection and dark or light spots, which are more likely if skin is treated too often or not protected from sun afterward. That's why we space sessions, use single-use cartridges and send you home with written aftercare.
Who should perform my microneedling?
The FDA recommends a provider who is specially trained in microneedling, because cleared devices penetrate to layers with nerves and blood vessels. Ask how the device is cleaned, whether a new needle cartridge is opened for you, and how your aftercare will be handled. We welcome all three questions.
What is the difference between microneedling and RF microneedling?
Standard microneedling uses needles alone. RF microneedling, such as Potenza, sends radiofrequency energy through the needles, which works differently and carries different risks. At Cosmetiq Medicine, standard microneedling is offered at both clinics, while Potenza is performed only at our Vancouver, WA clinic, serving Portland clients.
